A liquid crystal display (LCD) is a flat, thin display created by a number of monochrome or colour pixels which are arranged in front of a reflector or light source. The pixels within a LCD display are usually made up of a layer of molecules aligned between two polarising filters and two transparent electrodes made from Indium Tin Oxide (ITO). The surfaces of the electrodes which come in contact with the liquid crystal material have been treated so that they align the liquid crystal molecules in one particular direction.Liquid-crystal display televisions (LCD TV) use LCD technology to create images. The benefits of LCD technology are lower power requirements and lighter displays. LCD displays are commonly used as laptop and computer monitors.
Today, this belief is no longer true with the onset in new LCD technological advances, large LCD flat-panel televisions are now competing with plasma flat-panel televisions in your local electrical stores... usually at a cheaper price!
The new LCD technological advances are creating LCD HDTVs and it looks like these flat-panel televisions will be dominant in the future TV market.
